BBL Taxo P Disc is a diagnostic tool used for the presumptive identification of pneumococci. It is a paper disc impregnated with ethylhydrocupreine hydrochloride (optochin) and is meant to be used with pure cultures. The disc helps differentiate pneumococci from other alpha-hemolytic streptococci by checking their susceptibility to optochin.
