Mounjaro® KwikPen is used to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes when used alongside a balanced diet and regular physical activity. It is also indicated for chronic weight management in adults who are obese (BMI ≥30) or overweight (BMI ≥27 with weight-related medical conditions). The medication works by improving insulin sensitivity, regulating blood glucose levels, and reducing appetite, which may support weight loss.
Mounjaro® is administered as a once-weekly subcutaneous injection into the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm. Injection sites should be rotated to reduce the risk of skin irritation and to ensure proper absorption. The injection should be taken on the same day each week, preferably at the same time, as missed or inconsistent doses may reduce treatment effectiveness.
Treatment typically begins at a lower dose (2.5 mg) and is gradually increased in 2.5 mg steps every 4 weeks based on individual response and tolerance. Available maintenance doses include 5 mg, 7.5 mg, 10 mg, 12.5 mg, and 15 mg. Your doctor will determine the most appropriate dose for you.
Always follow your doctor’s instructions regarding dosage, timing, administration, and storage.
Unused pens should be stored in a refrigerator at 2°C to 8°C and must not be frozen. Once in use, the pen may be stored at room temperature (up to 30°C) for up to 30 days. If the medication has been stored outside the recommended conditions, consult a pharmacist before use.
Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, and indigestion. These effects are usually mild to moderate and often improve as your body adjusts to the medication. Eating smaller meals and staying well hydrated may help reduce gastrointestinal discomfort. If side effects persist or worsen, consult your healthcare provider.
Mounjaro® is not suitable for everyone. It should not be used by individuals with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN2), as it may increase the risk of thyroid tumors. Pregnant women or those planning to become pregnant should avoid this medication due to potential risks identified in animal studies. If you are breastfeeding, discuss the potential benefits and risks with your doctor before starting treatment.
Before beginning therapy, inform your healthcare provider about all medications you are currently taking to avoid possible interactions. Regular blood glucose monitoring and routine medical follow-ups are essential to ensure safe and effective treatment. Do not self-medicate, and seek medical advice if you experience any unusual or concerning symptoms.

If you are experiencing painful earaches or your eye is red, swollen, and crusty or watery, see your doctor right away to discover if the problem is caused by bacteria. The most common types of bacterial eye infections are blepharitis, conjunctivitis, also called pink eye, and keratitis. Ear infections occur when one of the small tubes that run from each ear to the back of your throat becomes swollen or blocked and fluid begins to build up. Once the presence of bacteria has been confirmed, your doctor can prescribe Garamycin 0.3% Eye/Ear Drops to kill the bacteria that’s causing your discomfort and prevent permanent damage to your sight or hearing.
